Which really isn't ash, but little tiny shards of rock and glass. I lived in Seattle in 1980 when Mt. St. Helens went off; and while the prevailing winds kept most of the ashfall south of us, we did get a little. I really feel for the people in Europe who are going to be breathing that crap for a long time.
